Our Story

Animatik was launched in 2022 by Dori Kovásznai (daughter of legendary animation film maker György Kovásznai) and her husband, photographer David Sopronyi.

The couple have been managing the estate of Hungarian painter and animation film maker György Kovásznai with great success: today Kovásznai’s art is more popular than ever and the artist has an impressive international follower-base. As the interest in Kovásznai’s oeuvre swelled in recent years, it became clear that his fans would love to take a little piece of the artist’s work home with them – thus there is a need for some Kovásznai-merchandise.

The idea of creating Animatik was born out of taking this realization one step further. Although Hungarian animation has always been world class and is still thriving today, there is not much track record of producing merchandise for these artworks (with very few exceptions, usually for children’s films.) Animatik would like to fill in this gap by building a one-stop shop for products inspired by the magic of Hungarian animation. In collaboration with the Hungarian National Film Archive, we are constantly expanding our product ranges and the circle of animation film makers we draw inspiration from. Our aim is to capture the spirit of Hungary’s greatest animators in our products and bring the wonder of animation to the broadest audience possible!
